"New Data Spaces for the Social Sciences" - Call for Proposals in the new DFG Priority Program

Categories: GESIS-News

On March 15, 2023, the call for proposals for research projects in the new infrastructure priority program "New Data Spaces for the Social Sciences", which was recently established by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will start. The priority program aims to open up new data spaces for the social sciences. It is designed for the longer term and, against the background of current social upheavals, aims at the consistent modernization of social science data stocks and (data collection) methods. The program was initiated by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Pathways (LIfBi), the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences (GESIS), Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) and Goethe University Frankfurt. Interested parties can submit applications for project funding until mid-September 2023.

The social sciences need innovative research data and methods in order to more precisely research the major societal challenges of the coming decades, such as digitization, climate change, and war- and pandemic-related societal changes, and to be able to identify political needs for action based on this research. To open up and develop such new data spaces, the DFG has established the long-term infrastructure priority program "New Data Spaces for the Social Sciences" (SPP 2431) at the request of Cordula Artelt (LIfBi), Corinna Kleinert (LIfBi), Reinhard Pollak (GESIS), Stefan Liebig (FU Berlin) and Alexander Mehler (Goethe University Frankfurt).
